Story Time -- The Professional

I've found a wonderful story to share with you today. It's called the Professional and I hope you enjoy it. Wishing you lots of love and happiness!

The Story Begins....

A woman was at work when she received a phone call that her small daughter was very sick with a fever. She left her work and stopped by the pharmacy to get some medication. She got back to her car and found that she had locked her keys in the car. She didn't know what to do, so she called home and told the baby sitter what had happened.

The baby sitter told her that the fever was getting worse. She said, "You might find a coat hanger and use that to open the door. " The woman looked around and found an old rusty coat hanger that had been left on the ground, possibly by someone else who at some time had locked their keys in their car. She looked at the hanger and said, "I don't know how to use this." She bowed her head and asked God to send her help.

Within five minutes a beat up old motorcycle pulled up, with a dirty, greasy, bearded man who was wearing an old biker skull rag on his head. The woman thought, "This is what you sent to help me?" But, she was desperate, so.... She was also very thankful. The man got off of his cycle and asked if he could help. She said, "Yes, my daughter is very sick. I stopped to get her some medication and I locked my keys in my car. I must get home to her. Please, can you use this hanger to unlock my car?"

He said, "Sure." He walked over to the car, and in less than a minute the car was opened. She hugged the man and through her tears she said, "Thank you so much! You are a very nice man." The man replied, "Lady, I am not a nice man. I just got out of prison today. I was in prison for car theft and have only been out for about an hour." The woman hugged the man again and with sobbing tears cried out loud,"Oh, Thank you God! You even sent me a professional!"

Cultural Creatives

I love travelling and meeting people from all over the world. I consider myself a citizen of the world and I have always been fascinated with different cultures. Deep interest in this area led me to a Masters Degree in 1996 from the US in International Studies and Intercultural Communication.

My most recent work with an international NGO was as an Intercultural Specialist and Educator. I am always looking forward to my next international assignment either as an educator, trainer, consultant or presenter/ active participant for conferences related to social development or social change in the context of education.

I recently found an article posted on the website of "Alliance for a New Humanity", about a new sub-culture called the "Cultural Creatives." I found it quite interesting and could relate to it very well. I realized there are new dimensions to the definition of culture and this particular definition is developing very interestingly. I will list the characteristics below, and see if you can relate to it also.

Cultural Creatives

A new study by Ray and Anderson proving that millions of people worldwide are "Being the Change."

Here is a list of those characteristics; if you have 10 or more of them, you're probably a cultural creative -- and you will be in good company, although you may not know it yet!
  • Love nature and are deeply concerned about its destruction
  • Strongly aware of the problems of the planet and want to take action to curb them
  • Would pay more taxes or higher prices if the money would go to clean up the environment and stop global warming
  • Give a lot of importance to developing and maintaining relationships
  • Place great importance on helping others
  • Volunteer for one or more good causes
  • Care intensely about psychological or spiritual development
  • Want more equality for women at work and want more women leaders in business and politics
  • Concerned about violence and the abuse of women and children
  • Want politics and government to emphasize children's education and well being, the rebuiliding of neighbourhoods and communities, and creation of an ecologically sustainable future
  • Tend to be optimistic about the future and distrust the cynical and pessimistic view offered by the media
  • Want to be involved in creating a new and a better way of life
  • Are concerned what big corporations are doing in the name of profit: exploiting poor countries, harming the environment, downsizing
  • Have finances and spending under control and are not concerned with overspending
  • Dislike the modern emphasis on success, wealth and luxury goods
  • Enjoy experiencing and learning about other ways of life

Story Time -- A Glass of Milk

One day, a poor boy who was selling goods from door to door to pay his way through school, found he had only one dime left, and he was hungry. He decided he would ask for a meal at the next house.

However, he lost his nerve when a lovely young woman opened the door. Instead of a meal, he asked for a drink of water! She thought he looked hungry, so she brought him a large glass of milk. He drank it slowly, and then asked, "How much do I owe you?" "You don't owe me anything" she replied. "Mother has taught us never to accept pay for a kindness." He said ... "Then I thank you from my heart."

As Howard Kelly left that house, he not only felt stronger physically, but his faith in God and man was strong also. He had been ready to give up and quit. Many year's later ... that same young woman became critically ill. The local doctors were baffled. They finally sent her to the big city, where they called in the specialist, Dr. Howard, for consultation to study her rare disease. When he heard the name of the town she came from, a strange light filled his eyes.

Immediately he rose and went down the hall of the hospital to her room. Dressed in his doctor's gown, he went in to see her. He recognized her at once.He went back to the consultation room determined to do his best to save her life. From that dayon, he gave special attention to her case. After a long struggle, the battle was won.

Dr. Kelly requested the business office to pass the final bill to him for approval. He looked at it, then wrote something on the edge, and the billwas sent to her room. She feared to open it, for she was sure it would take the rest of her life to pay for it all. Finally she looked, and something caught her attention on the side of the bill. She read these words ..."Paid in full with one glass of milk"(Signed) Dr. Howard Kelly. Tears of joy flooded her eyes as her happy heart prayed: 'Thank You, God,that Your love has spread broad through human hearts and hands."

The good deed you do today, may benefit you or someone you love, at the least expected time. If you never see the deed again, at least you will have made the world a better place - And, after all, isn't that what life is all about?
